We have continually worked to meet the needs of our customers while keeping our team and all who visit us safe and healthy.
Underwoods has always followed a Food Safety program. In the months prior to the 2020 crisis, we strengthened our system in conjunction with Federal, State and County governments and implemented new Standard Operating Procedures (S.O.P.'s) to minimize health risks. We are committed to the health and safety of our employees and customers year-round and during this current pandemic.
Our team members begin their workday by washing their hands and frequently do so throughout the day. Nitrile gloves are worn when handling produce, stocking, and interacting with the public. They are frequently changed and replaced as team members move between different tasks. Team members are instructed to not touch items outside the task at hand and remove and replace as needed. All our equipment including crates, coolers, trucks, and knifes are sanitized and checks of water samples are taken four times per year.
The safety of our team members and our customers is of the utmost importance and we will continuously work to do whatever we can to offer a clean, safe, healthy, positive experience for all. Thank you for trusting us with your produce needs. Please take care and stay healthy!
We have 3 large hand washing stations and smaller ones near our portable restrooms. There is hand washing station at the entrance/exit to the farm, near The Barnyard within the Animal Center and in the Tour/Birthday Party area. We also have portable hand washing sinks near our portable restrooms. Each hand washing station is equipped with soap, water and disposable paper towels. Hand washing signs are posted above the stations. We encourage guests and our team members to wash their hands and we also provide hand sanitizer at our Admission's booth, The Barnyard and Farm Market. Guests can also bring their own hand sanitizer.
Wash Your Hands Often to Stay Healthy
You can help yourself and your loved ones stay healthy by washing your hands often, especially during these key times when you are likely to get and spread germs:
- Before, during, and after preparing food
- Before eating food
- Before and after treating a cut or wound
- After using the toilet
- After changing diapers or cleaning up a child who has used the toilet
- After blowing your nose, coughing, or sneezing
- After touching an animal, animal feed, or animal waste
- After handling pet food or pet treats
- After touching garbage

Follow Five Steps to Wash Your Hands the Right Way
Washing your hands is easy, and it’s one of the most effective ways to prevent the spread of germs. Clean hands can stop germs from spreading from one person to another and throughout an entire community—from your home and workplace to childcare facilities and hospitals.
Follow these five steps every time.
- Wet your hands with clean, running water (warm or cold), turn off the tap, and apply soap.
- Lather your hands by rubbing them together with the soap. Lather the backs of your hands, between your fingers, and under your nails.
- Scrub your hands for at least 20 seconds. Need a timer? Hum the “Happy Birthday” song from beginning to end twice.
- Rinse your hands well under clean, running water.
- Dry your hands using a clean towel or air dry them.
*This information provided by the CDC - Centers for Disease Control & Prevention
Use Hand Sanitizer When You Can’t Use Soap and Water
Washing hands with soap and water is the best way to get rid of germs in most situations. If soap and water are not readily available, you can use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer that contains at least 60% alcohol. You can tell if the sanitizer contains at least 60% alcohol by looking at the product label.
Sanitizers can quickly reduce the number of germs on hands in many situations. However,
- Sanitizers do not get rid of all types of germs.
- Hand sanitizers may not be as effective when hands are visibly dirty or greasy.
- Hand sanitizers might not remove harmful chemicals from hands.
*This information provided by the CDC - Centers for Disease Control & Prevention
Caution! Swallowing alcohol-based hand sanitizers can cause alcohol poisoning if more than a couple of mouthfuls are swallowed. Keep it out of reach of young children and supervise their use.
How to use hand sanitizer
- Apply the gel product to the palm of one hand (read the label to learn the correct amount).
- Rub your hands together.
- Rub the gel over all the surfaces of your hands and fingers until your hands are dry. This should take around 20 seconds.

We strongly recommend that any guests that are experiencing any symptoms including coughing, fever, shortness of breath, etc, remain at home.
We have always followed a Food Safety program. Over the last few months, we strengthened our system in conjunction with Federal and County governments and implemented new Standard Operating Procedures (S.O.P.'s) to minimize health risks. While we have always promoted hand washing via hand washing buttons our staff wears and directed our guests and employees to frequently use the hand washing stations at our entrances, exits, high traffic areas, and near our animals, additional educational signage has been posted and tips have been added to our website. All of our equipment including crates, coolers, trucks, and knifes are sanitized and checks of water samples are taken four times per year. As recommended, hand washing using soap and water, is the #1 best way to prevent the catching/spreading of viruses and bacteria.
Our team members routinely sanitize areas of the farm including countertops, gates, restrooms, and high-traffic contact zones. Hand sanitizer is available at our Farm Markets, admissions, and in the petting grooming area with hand-washing stations throughout the farm. Guests are also encouraged to bring their own hand-sanitizer and tissues. We strongly recommend that any guests that are experiencing any symptoms including coughing, fever, shortness of breath, etc, remain at home.
MSNBC medical contributor Dr. Joseph Fair, a virologist, epidemiologist and outbreak responder, stated on a March 6, 2020 segment of NBC Nightly News with Lester Holt, that "nature's greatest disinfectant [is] sunlight. The UV light inactivates the virus." With over 30 acres to explore and visit, there is plenty of room for all to enjoy themselves in the fresh air & open space and take in the sunshine.

We like to call our restrooms "farm bathrooms". As we are a farm that is ever changing, we unable to put in facilities that would require permanent changes to the farm. We do our best to provide "farm restrooms" or portables that are clean and user friendly. We also have a changing station within the Animal Center near the Farm Market. We thank you for your understanding.
Our farm is wheelchair and handicapped accessible. Ride-on scooters for accessibility are welcomed. We have handicapped parking at the entrances. The pathways inside our animal center are of decomposed granite and we have handicapped bathrooms. The pick-your-own fields are dirt, but are manageable as visitors take strollers and wagons. We do have hay throughout the Fall Harvest site in Sept/Oct, but in terms of manageability, the matriarch of our family, Alice Underwood, visited the farm often in her wheelchair and walker well in to her 90's and never had an issue. Our team members are always on hand to assist in any way possible.

We like to call our restrooms "farm bathrooms". As we are a farm that is ever changing, we shy against putting in facilities that would require permanent changes to the farm. We do our best to provide "farm restrooms" that are clean and user friendly and we thank you for your understanding.
Our farm is wheelchair and handicap accessible. We have handicapped parking at the entrances. The pathways inside our animal center are of decomposed granite and we have handicapped bathrooms. The pick-your-own fields are dirt, but are manageable as visitors take strollers and wagons. We do have hay throughout the Fall Harvest Festival site, but in terms of manageability, the matriarch of our family, Alice Underwood, visited the farm often in her wheelchair and walker well in to her 90's and never had an issue. Our team members are always on hand to assist in any way possible.
